SARAH C. BELL is a freelance illustrator living in San Francisco. She works with many different media, from pen and ink, to oil paint. Bell holds a BFA in Fine Art from the University of Colorado, Boulder, as well as an MFA in Illustration from Academy of Art University, San Francisco.
Bell is an accomplished illustrator and freelance artist, moving between styles and techniques depending on every individual project. Bell’s work includes graphic novel illustration, book covers, poster art, custom portraits and paintings, tattoo design, among many other illustrative projects.
Bell’s work is entirely done by hand (with a little help from Photoshop for color sometimes). From drawing to painting and hand-carved prints, her portfolio is diverse, and her many styles are fluid, and able to transform according the needs of the client, and the nature of the project.
Bell’s own comics have been published in many mainstream and alternative presses, among them UC Berkeley Press and Fantagraphics Books, and distributed by Last Gasp Comics. She has been the recipient of five arts grants and she is the author and illustrator of The Urban Fairytales, the fourth volume of which is forthcoming. Her illustrations have appeared in myriad publications and websites, and her comics, paintings and prints have been shown in many galleries across the country.
